Our approach to Sustainability is rooted in our company Values of Safety and Environmental Stewardship, Accountability, Ethics and Integrity, and Respect and Fairness. Although the principles upon which we operate and behave are consistent, we believe continuous improvement of the practices guiding how we manage our environmental and social impact is not only good business, but it’s the right thing to do.
Since 2018, executive direction for Sustainability at Plains has been set by a four-member committee comprised of executive management team members. A working group of primarily VP-level leaders was established to oversee implementation of Sustainability efforts. Members of the working group represent business areas including Operations; Environmental & Regulatory Compliance; Safety, Security, Emergency Preparedness & Training; Human Resources; Investor Relations; Communications & Government Relations; and Treasury.
Several years ago, Plains began the process to implement an Operations Management System (OMS) that outlines how we operate and continuously improve to meet our responsibilities. The OMS supplies a framework for integration of social and environmental performance goals into our business systems and identifies opportunities for their continuous improvement.
With assets in the United States and Canada, we tailor our Sustainability efforts to the needs of the communities in which we operate. More information on our approach to Sustainability and plans for enhancing data-driven disclosures was outlined in our 2019 Investor Day presentation. Much of our Sustainability work pertains to all of North America, but certain programs are unique to each country. The information within these Sustainability pages pertains to Plains All American Pipeline operations.
