In Midland, our Control Center is staffed and operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It monitors and operates more than 2,000 remote sites via Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), utilizing primarily satellite communications. Our Control Centers help us continuously monitor conditions as we schedule and transport more than 2 billion barrels of liquid product per year.
All of our U.S. pipeline systems are remotely controlled and monitored by the Midland Control Center. The Control Center is committed to ensuring public safety and environmental protection through diligent and safe operation of our pipeline systems, while providing customers the safest and most efficient transportation option.
Control Center Activity
Pipeline Controllers have the authority, responsibility and obligation to shut down a pipeline when they believe pipeline integrity is in doubt. The pipeline can only be restarted when the issue has been corrected and proper authorization has been given by Operations and Control Center management. Even then, the Controller has the authority to refuse the restart of a pipeline if doubt regarding pipeline integrity remains.
